Peter Heinrich Schmidt (economist)

Peter Heinrich Schmidt (born August 23, 1870 in Trier , † September 12, 1954 in St. Gallen ) was a German economist and geographer .

Life

Born in Trier, Peter Heinrich Schmidt devoted himself to studying economics at the universities of Geneva , Zurich and Berne after completing his Abitur , which he achieved with the academic degree of Dr. phil. completed.

After settling in Economics habilitation , had he followed 1900 a call to the professor of German, history and geography at the Traffic School St. Gallen. In 1904 he accepted a professorship for national economic geography and world economics at the commercial academy (later commercial college) in St. Gallen , which he held until his retirement . Schmidt, who was a member of the Geographical-Ethnographic Society Zurich , dealt in particular with geographic and economic issues. In 1934 the University of Bern awarded him an honorary doctorate.
