Peter Herman Adler

Peter Herman Adler (born December 2, 1899 in Gablonz , † October 2, 1990 in Ridgefield , USA ) was a conductor born in Bohemia .

He studied music at the Prague Conservatory . From 1929 to 1932 he was music director of the Bremen State Opera , from 1932 to 1937 of the Ukrainian State Philharmonic in Kiev .

In 1939 he emigrated to the USA, where he worked with the New York Philharmonic , the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (1959 to 1968) and the Metropolitan Opera . From September 1973 to 1981 Peter Herman Adler was director of the American Opera Center.

In 1951 he was nominated for an Oscar for the film music for " The Great Caruso " .
