Peter Jaeck

Peter Jaeck (born December 2, 1894 in Düren , † October 5, 1937 near Schmalkalden ) was a German sports scientist and first director of the Institute for Physical Education in Marburg .

Life

Jaeck studied medicine and philosophy after finishing his school career . From 1914 to 1918 he took part in the First World War. Returning from captivity in Scotland in 1919, he continued his studies at the University of Frankfurt am Main , but switched to history , German and English . With a historical dissertation on the City of Frankfurt and the Peace of Westphalia and doctorate Peter Jaeck 1922 at the University of Frankfurt Dr. phil. On October 1, 1923 he was at theUniversity of Marburg employed as the first director of the Institute for Physical Exercise (IfL). From 1924 he also took over the management of the gym teacher courses. In 1924 Jaeck became a private lecturer for the basics of physical education, in 1925 ao. Professor. Jaeck campaigned for the academic recognition of the subject "physical exercise and physical education". His goal was the recognition of physical exercise as an equal school subject. In 1934 the “reorganization” of training began by the Reich Ministry of Education . Physical exercises and sports were militarized for all students. Jaeck headed the sports student camp at the Olympic Games in Berlin in 1936. On October 5, 1937, Jaeck had a fatal motorcycle accident near Schmalkalden.
