Peter Jenny (politician, 1800)

Peter Jenny (born December 30, 1800 in Schwanden ; † January 30, 1874 ibid) was a Swiss politician and industrialist . From 1857 to 1866 he was a member of the National Council.

Life

Peter Jenny was the son of the land clerk and businessman Felix Jenny, a partner in the important textile company Jenny & Blumer . After completing a commercial training in Italy , he took on a managerial position in the company. He was also director of the slate mines in Engi . From 1836 he was councilor of the Canton of Glarus , from 1836 to 1842 a member of the professional ethics commission ( cantonal government ). He also presided over the military commission, the road commission and the building commission.

Despite his sometimes conservative inclinations, Jenny advocated a liberal cantonal constitution in 1837, and from 1845 he was a member of the appellate court. In 1851 he initiated the bank in Glarus (predecessor of the Glarner Kantonalbank ), from 1857 to 1874 he sat on the board of directors of the United Swiss Railways . Jenny ran successfully in the National Council elections in 1857 . In the National Council he was considered a trade and customs expert, in 1866 he resigned. After all, he was the Swiss consul in Ancona from 1868 to 1872 .

He was distantly related to the politician of the same name , who sat in the National Council from 1866 to 1872.
