Peter Joseph Besenval

Peter Joseph Besenval von Brunnstatt (baptized May 5, 1675 in Solothurn ; † May 26, 1736 ibid) was a Swiss politician .

Life

Besenval was Catholic and from Solothurn. He was the son of Johann Viktor Besenval von Brunnstatt (1638-1713) and brother of Johann Viktor (1671-1736) and Karl Jakob (1677-1738). In 1697 he married Anna Maria Magdalena Schwerzig, daughter of Blasius, a salt merchant and young councilor. From 1683 to 1690 he attended the Jesuit high school in Solothurn, after which he was a cadet and from 1691 a lieutenant in the Swiss Guard regiment . He was a magistrate and a salt tenant. In 1691 he became a Grand Councilor , in 1693 Seckelschreiber , 1707 town clerk , 1725 Altrat , 1728 Seckelmeister and 1736 Venner . He was also an interpreter for the French Ambassade and Knight of the Order of St. Michael . Besenval was one of the most influential politicians in Solothurn in the first half of the 18th century. He was the closest colleague of his father Johann Viktor Besenval. After his death he became the leader of the French party . He was unable to prevent the loss of Besenval's monopoly of power in 1722-23. From 1703 to 1706 he had the Besenval Palace built together with his brother Johann Viktor .
