Peter Julius Junge (born August 30, 1913 in Bonn , † 1943 near Stalingrad ) was a German ancient historian .

Even while he was attending school in Breslau , Junge joined the NS student union in 1929 and was a member of the Hitler Youth from 1930 . After graduating from high school, Junge first went to Vienna to study , but later returned to Breslau , as he had been politically active in the municipal council elections and the university riots in 1932. He belonged to the NSDAP . In Breslau he was with that of Ernst Kornemann supervised work Saka studies 1936 PhD (published as Saka studies: the remote north-east in view of antiquity. (= Clio: Contributions to ancient history . 41) Dieterich, Leipzig 1939; later reprints) . In 1936 he was able to travel to Persia and study the monuments and inscriptions of Persepolis and Naqsch-e Rostam first hand. He then went to Berlin in 1937 and worked there with the Hellenistic material of the German Turfan Expedition . From 1938 he was employed as a consultant at the Reich leadership of the NSDAP . Shortly before the start of the Second World War , he was drafted into military service. His habilitation took place in Innsbruck in 1940 , where he was also appointed adjunct professor. The main reviewer was Franz Miltner , who was committed to the National Socialist and who also took care of the posthumous publication ( Dareios I, King of the Persians. Harrassowitz, Leipzig 1944; Persian translation 1957).

Young portrayal and evaluations are undoubtedly shaped by National Socialist ideas. What is noteworthy, however, is the turning away from the image of antiquity, which until then was clearly focused on the Greco-Roman world, towards a study of the oriental world from its own sources.
