Peter Kaiser (historian, 1793)

Peter Kaiser (born November 1, 1793 in Mauren ; † February 23, 1864 in Chur ) was a teacher, historian and politician from Liechtenstein . In 1848 he was elected a member of the Principality of Liechtenstein in the Frankfurt National Assembly.

Peter Kaiser was a versatile personality from the Principality of Liechtenstein, who worked as a pedagogue, historian and politician and who spoke Latin, Greek, Italian, English and French. During his studies of philosophy, history and law in Freiburg and Vienna, he came into contact with its liberal-democratic ideas through his membership in the old Freiburg fraternity (1818). After teaching at various Swiss schools, he was later rector of the canton schools in Disentis and Chur. In 1847 he wrote the book History of the Principality of Liechtenstein, which was groundbreaking for Liechtenstein .

Peter Kaiser was instrumental in curbing the unrest that began in Liechtenstein in 1848 so that it did not result in violence there. The Peter Kaiser Memorial Foundation was established in his honor in 1985 .
