Peter Karam

Peter Karam (born September 5, 1959 in Beirut ) is a Lebanese clergyman and Curia Bishop of the Maronite Patriarchate of Antioch .

Life

Peter Karam studied philosophy at the Université Saint-Joseph in Beirut and from 1984 at the Maronite Seminary in Washington, DC He obtained his licentiate at the Catholic University of America and received the sacrament of priestly ordination for the Eparchy Saint Maron in Brooklyn on January 2, 1988 . After its establishment in 1994, he was incardinated in the clergy of the Eparchy Our Lady of Lebanon in Los Angeles .

After being ordained a priest, he initially worked in pastoral care and then studied from 1996 to 2000 at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich , where he received his doctorate in philosophy . After returning to the United States, he returned to parish ministry. He was also responsible for the protection of minors and the training of priests. He was a member of the college of consultors and was syncless for the clergy.

On June 15, 2019, Pope Francis confirmed his election as Curia Bishop by the Maronite Synod and appointed him Titular Bishop of Arca in Phenicia dei Maroniti . The Maronite Patriarch of Antioch, Béchara Pierre Cardinal Raï OMM , gave him and with him the appointed Curia Bishop Antoine Aukar on 31 July of the same year, the episcopal ordination .
