Antoine Aukar

Antoine Aukar OAM (born December 28, 1964 in Mreiji , Beirut ) is a Lebanese clergyman and Curia Bishop of the Maronite Patriarchate of Antioch .

Life

Antoine Aukar first earned a degree in mathematics and taught at a high school in Ghazir . After joining the order of the Maronite Antonians , he studied at the Institut Catholique in Lyon , where he obtained a degree in theology and biblical theology . On June 12, 1995, he put his perpetual profession from and received on August 10, 1996, the sacrament of Holy Orders .

After his ordination he was among other things secretary to the superior general of his order and taught biblical theology at various universities. Until his election as bishop he was vicar general of his order.

On June 15, 2019, Pope Francis confirmed his election as Curia Bishop by the Maronite Synod and appointed him Titular Bishop of Ptolemais in Phenicia dei Maroniti . The Maronite Patriarch of Antioch, Béchara Pierre Cardinal Raï OMM , donated him and the Curia Bishop Peter Karam, who was appointed with him, episcopal ordination on July 31 of the same year . Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Beirut , Paul Abdel Sater , and the Bishop Emeritus of Baalbek-Deir El-Ahmar , Simon Atallah OAM .
