Peter Karner (singer)

Peter Karner (born June 30, 1941 in Vienna ) is an Austrian opera and operetta singer ( tenor ) and musical performer .

Life

After Karner had completed elementary school and six classes at the Realgymnasium, he trained in the printing and media technology department at the Höhere Graphische Bundes-Lehr- und Versuchsanstalt (HGBLVA) in Vienna. At the same time he completed training in classical singing with Joseph Marschkan and Edwin Wladmann at the Horak Conservatory in Vienna, which was renamed the Franz Schubert Conservatory in 1979 .

From 1959, in addition to his studies and certification, Karner worked as a proofreader and editor in various printing companies and publishing houses, and as a singer at numerous concerts and trade fairs. He made his debut in 1963 as Orestes in Jacques Offenbach's Raimund Theater in Vienna. A year later he got the role of Raoul de Saint Brioche in Franz Lehár's operetta The Merry Widow , which was performed at the Mörbisch Sea Games .

From 1965 to 1968 Karner was a permanent member of the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe as a buffo for opera and operetta . He later worked at both the Theater Dortmund (1968–1975) and the Graz Opera House (1975–2001). Since he retired in 2001, Karner has been working as a singing teacher in private studios in Graz for ballet, singing and performing arts.
