Peter Kranke (born July 10, 1973 in Würzburg ) is an anesthetist and professor of anesthesiology at the University Hospital of Würzburg . Sick is known for conducting clinical studies and systematic reviews in the context of perioperative medicine, clinical research with a focus on evidence-based medicine as well as interventional and observational studies on postoperative nausea and vomiting, among other things . His clinical area of responsibility and interests includes anesthesia and analgesia in obstetrics .

Peter Kranke, anesthetist

Life

Sick studied human medicine from 1994 to 1999 at the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg and from 1999 to 2000 at the Ruprecht Karls University of Heidelberg and at the Baden Cantonal Hospital in Switzerland (practical year). In 2000 the license to practice medicine followed and in 2001 the doctorate to Dr. med. with "magna cum laude". In 2006 he became a specialist doctor and completed his habilitation in the same year. The theme of the paper was: "Perioperative process optimization through the application of evidence-based medicine and results from outcomes research using the example of avoiding nausea and vomiting after anesthesia". In addition to his job, he took part in a Master of Business course at the Faculty of Economics at the University of Würzburg with an MBA degree in 2005. In 2007 he was appointed senior physician at the Clinic and Polyclinic for Anaesthesiology at the University of Würzburg. He has been Head of Clinical Research there since 2008. In 2009 he accepted a professorship for anesthesiology at the University of Würzburg. In 2013 he was offered a professorship for anesthesiology at the University of Cologne (rejected). In addition to the specialist in anesthesiology, the sick person has the additional qualifications of intensive care medicine , emergency medicine , pain therapy , palliative medicine , acupuncture and medical quality management, as well as various qualifications in connection with the implementation of clinical studies ( investigator , GCP training ). In 2014, Kranke acquired the "University Teaching Bavaria" certificate in the field of university teaching. Since 2016 he has been a lecturer at the clinic and polyclinic for anesthesiology at the University Hospital Würzburg.

The "Clinical Studies Working Group", which is headed by the sick, is able to competently carry out clinical research projects with the aim of approving pharmacological interventions (IMP, phase II or III) or evaluating medical devices due to its diverse experience and networking . Furthermore, the working group creates systematic reviews, including according to the criteria of the Cochrane Collaboration , on interventions in the health care system with accompanying economic benefit assessment.

Scientific contribution

The main focus of the scientific work of the sick was on the one hand observational studies on the incidence and risk factors of nausea and vomiting after anesthesia (postoperative nausea and vomiting; PONV), self-initiated studies on the effectiveness and tolerability of antiemetics and approval studies for antiemetic pharmacotherapy in phases II and III as well as systematic reviews of various interventions in the perioperative context, including numerous antiemetics. In addition, various models of prognostic tools were carried out as part of the prediction of PONV shivering and other endpoints, as well as pharmaco-economic analyzes and investigations into the effects of algorithms on the quality of treatment. The focus on evidence-based medicine in the context of anesthesia soon led to the first Cochrane reviews in the field of perioperative medicine and related areas, which make up a significant focus of the work of the group around the sick and to the development of further Cochrane reviews including their regular updates. The focus of the work on evidence-based medicine led to participation in numerous consensus and guideline committees. In addition to perioperative medicine in general, another focus is on obstetric analgesia and anesthesia. Here in particular on the investigation of alternative methods of obstetric analgesia, e.g. B. Contraindications for performing neuraxial analgesia procedures such as epidural analgesia and their safe implementation. At an early stage, the sick and employees pointed out unusual results from researcher Yoshitaka Fujii. These findings were negated for a long time, but ultimately confirmed by renewed, complex analyzes.

Memberships in scientific associations

Kranke has been editor of the European Journal of Anaesthesiology since 2010 , member of the expert panel of the journal Anesthesiology, Intensive Care Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Pain Therapy and has held various positions in the European Society of Anesthesiology (including member and later chairman of the Scientific Committee for Evidence-based Medicine and Quality Improvement, Member of the Scientific Committee on Obstetric Anesthesia).

He is a member of the Obstetric Committee (2016–2020) of the World Federation of Societies of Anesthesiologists.

Ill is co-author of the international consensus conferences on the management of nausea and vomiting after anesthesia ( postoperative nausea and vomiting, PONV ) including their regular updates as well as the European recommendation on preoperative sobriety. In the German Society for Anesthesiology, he has held the position of secretary of the Scientific Working Group on Regional Anesthesia and Obstetric Anesthesia since 2015 (since 2017: 2nd speaker of the newly established working group "Obstetric Anesthesia" of the DGAI) and is a member of the DAC's program committee for the field of obstetric anesthesia and the clinical research committee. Since 2011, Ill has been a member of the working group "Revision of Chapter 5 - Human albumin of the cross-sectional guidelines for hemotherapy " of the standing working group "Cross-sectional guidelines for therapy with blood components and plasma derivatives" of the Scientific Advisory Board.
