Peter Kropsch (born June 26, 1965 in Wels , Upper Austria) is the managing director of the German press agency dpa, where he took over the chairmanship of the management in January 2017. Before that, Kropsch was CEO of the Austrian news agency APA - Austria Presse Agentur .

Training and first professional positions

Peter Kropsch graduated from Wels in 1983 . Immediately afterwards he studied business administration for two semesters at the University of Linz , but then switched to studying journalism and communication science at the University of Vienna in 1984 . As a second major, Kropsch chose a combination of subjects from psychology , sociology and history . He completed both courses in 1993 and then began his one-year military service .

Parallel to these two studies, he completed a university course in public relations at the University of Vienna from 1989 to 1991 , which he successfully completed as an "academically certified PR consultant".

Even as a student, Kropsch also worked for various companies, such as B. until 1989 as a freelance copywriter for an advertising agency in Linz. He then worked in the Elin Group in the public relations department until 1991 , where he most recently acted as press spokesman and head of the PR department.

For the following four years he switched from PR to journalism and worked from 1991 to 1995 as a business editor at WIPRESS - Wirtschaftspressedienst GmbH, which was a subsidiary of the German vwd group ( United Business Services ), which in turn was owned by the Handelsblatt , the FAZ and the Dow Jones stood. Before the agency was sold to the APA - Austria Press Agency, Kropsch was already entrusted with the tasks of authorized signatory and co-partner.

Kropsch's career began at APA - Austria Press Agency in 1996 in the Marketing and Sales department. In his second year with the company, he was already head of Business Information and was responsible for the business areas APA Financial Services, APA Databases and Profile Services, APA Original Text Service and APA MultiMedia. In the course of the spin-off of APA-OTS, he took over the management of the new subsidiary in 2000 and was appointed authorized signatory and member of the APA management in the same year.

From 2002 and 2008 he also acted as managing director of APA-DeFacto GmbH and APA-BeteiligungsManagement GmbH. In December 2005, Kropsch was appointed deputy managing director, and finally managing director in 2006 under CEO Wolfgang Vyslozil .

From 2009 Kropsch was a member of the executive board and chief executive officer . The second managing director in the APA Group was Konrad Tretter from 2009 to 2014, and Clemens Pig from 2014. In October 2014, Kropsch was voted “ Media Manager of the Year 2014” by the industry magazine “ Der Österreichische Journalist ” . In June 2015 it was announced that Kropsch will be transferring to the management of the German Press Agency in September 2016.
