Peter Kujath (born June 17, 1946 in Hamburg ) is a German surgeon.

Life

After finishing school in Kiel, Kujath studied human medicine from 1966 to 1972 in Kiel, Berlin, Vienna and Würzburg. In 1968 he became a member of the Corps Borussia Berlin . From 1973 to 1974 he was a medical assistant in the municipal hospital in Rothenburg ob der Tauber . He received his license to practice medicine on February 1, 1974 . On July 12, 1974, he was promoted to Dr. med. PhD. From 1975 he did his military service as a medical officer in the 12th Panzer Division . He then worked as an assistant doctor: 1976/1977 at the Pathological Institute of the University of Würzburg, 1977/1978 at the surgical clinic of the Rotenburg ob der Tauber city hospital and from 1978 in the surgery department of the Würzburg University Hospital . On February 15, 1981 he became a specialist in surgery. As a senior physician, he completed his habilitation for surgery on June 1, 1985 in Würzburg. In 1989 the University of Lübeck appointed him associate professor . From May 1, 1990, he was a senior physician at the Clinic for Surgery at the University Hospital in Lübeck. He received the sub-areas of vascular surgeon (1996) and visceral surgeon (1998). From 1999 to 2013 he was head of thoracic surgery at the University Medical Center Schleswig-Holstein , Lübeck campus. In 2013 he became a senior physician at the clinic for visceral, vascular and thoracic surgery at the West Coast Clinic in Heide.

The focus of his clinical activities are peritonitis , skin and soft tissue infections, mycoses and thrombosis prophylaxis . The first publication of a case series on the invasive occurrence of fungi in the peritoneum goes back to him . Due to his services to research into human pathogenic fungi, he was awarded the Schönlein Medal of the German Society for Mycology in 2012 . He dealt with outpatient thromboprophylaxis in patients with injuries to the lower extremities. Kujath published the first publication on systematic doping in fitness training (35% of long-term active people). The first documented series of video-assisted lobectomies in Germany can also be traced back to him.

Peter Kujath was a member of the Supervisory Board of Volksbank Lübeck from 2005 to 2014 . He has been managing director of A. Soetje GmbH & Co. KG Itzehoe since 1988.
