Peter Michael Mombaur

Peter Michael Mombaur (born December 12, 1938 in Solingen ) is a German lawyer and politician ( CDU ).

Mombaur did his Abitur at the Schwertstraße high school in Solingen and then studied law and history in Marburg , Bonn and Cologne . From 1978 to 1994 he was a managing member of the presidency of the German Association of Towns and Municipalities and the State Association for North Rhine-Westphalia , from 1988 to 2000 he was a deputy member of the Constitutional Court of North Rhine-Westphalia . He was also on the boards of the German Savings Banks and Giro Association , the German-Polish Government Commission and the permanent conference of municipalities and regions at the Council of Europe. During the fall of the Iron Curtain, he advised the democratic governments in Poland , Hungary and the GDR . He started working as a lawyer in 1994, after which he was Vice President of the European Energy Foundation.

Mombaur joined the Junge Union Solingen in 1956 and was its chairman from 1960 to 1964. Just one year after the JU, he also became a member of the CDU in 1957, where he was a member of the party executive in Solingen and Haan . He also sat on the city council in both cities for a number of years. From 1994 to 2004 he was a member of the European Parliament .

Mombaur is married and has three children.
