Peter Michelsen (born December 12, 1866 in Wester-Ackebye, Schleswig district , † November 11, 1936 in Flensburg ) was a German politician (SPD).

Live and act

Peter Michelsen was born the son of a house carpenter and bricklayer. After attending primary school in Taarstedt , he completed an apprenticeship as a shoemaker in his hometown from 1882 to 1886. In 1890 he joined the Association of Shoemakers in Germany and in 1893 the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD). In 1891 he married. From 1894 Michelsen worked in the "Schäftemacherei" as a stepper. From 1899 he earned his living as a tailor.

In 1910 Michelsen was elected workers' secretary in Flensburg. In 1906, 1907 and 1912 he ran unsuccessfully as an SPD candidate for the Reichstag in the 1st and 2nd Schleswig-Holstein constituencies . In 1912 he became a city councilor in Flensburg .

During the First World War Michelsen was active in social welfare in Flensburg: He took on tasks as a career advisor for war invalids and in the city's food supply. After the November Revolution of 1918 he was elected to the Executive Committee of the Workers 'and Soldiers' Council in Flensburg. As an alderman, he also took on tasks with the district administrator of the Flensburg district .

In January 1919 Michelsen was elected to the Weimar National Assembly, in which he represented constituency 14 (Schleswig-Holstein). He then belonged to the first Reichstag of the Weimar Republic as a member of parliament for a few months before retiring prematurely from parliament on February 20, 1921 - after a new election in constituency 14.

In 1925 he married for the second time.
