Peter Oertling

Peter Oertling (born July 3, 1937 in Hamburg ) is a German politician ( SPD ) and former city ​​president of the Hanseatic city of Lübeck .

Life

Oertling attended the Kalandschule and the Realschule Alte Stadtschule in Lübeck, completed training as a bricklayer, worked for a construction company from 1967 and started his own business as a master bricklayer in 1971. He has been a member of the SPD since February 1967. Oertling was shaped politically by his grandfathers, the Ostpolitik of Lübeck's Willy Brandt and the former Lübeck city president Helmut Niendorf, who was his trainer for a time. From 1976 Oertling became involved in local politics, initially as a civic member of the youth welfare committee of the Lübeck citizenship . Oertling was a member of it from 1982 to 2003, was chairman of the building committee, sports policy spokesman for the SPD parliamentary group and from 1986 to 1990 honorary senator for public green spaces and forests and first deputy mayor. From 1990 to 2003, Oertling served as mayor of the Hanseatic city. During his term of office he developed relations with Lübeck's twin city Klaipėda (Lithuania), which made him an honorary citizen in 2002 for his services, and with the Hanseatic city of Wismar .
