Peter Pfeiffer (born August 21, 1943 in Dallwitz ) is a former head of design at Daimler AG . He is currently Chairman of the Design Council (German Design Council) and Advisory Links der Isar GmbH, a consulting firm for digital marketing.

Private life

After the end of the Second World War, the entire Pfeiffers family was expelled from the Sudetenland and settled in Schönbrunn in Bavaria.

Due to his interest in shapes and design , Pfeiffer began an apprenticeship as a porcelain modeler at “Alboth & Kaiser” (today Kaiser-Porzellan ) in nearby Staffelstein after completing school . Pfeiffer then switched to the porcelain college in Selb in Upper Franconia . A study trip to the Ford factory in Cologne was to change Peter Pfeiffer's life fundamentally a little later. Pfeiffer asked the then head of design Wesely P. Dahlberg, the father of the legendary Taunus P3 , for an internship and was allowed to model a fender in the newly established Ford design department . Dahlberg recognized the potential of the young Peter Pfeiffer and hired him straight away.

Peter Pfeiffer is married and has one son.

Career

After the first successful concepts and design studies, after five years Peter Pfeiffer moved to the car manufacturer Mercedes-Benz in Sindelfingen in 1967 , where a new department for stylistics was just being established. Pfeiffer initially worked there on wooden models and later with clay and plasticine. Pfeiffer also used the conversion from clay models to CAD-supported computer models for creative designs and new ideas.

In the years that followed, Pfeiffer played a significant role in numerous vehicle models and in 1999 was therefore the new head of design at what was then "DaimlerChrysler AG". As the successor to Bruno Sacco , Pfeiffer was henceforth responsible for the vehicle brands “Mercedes-Benz”, “Smart”, “Maybach” and “Freightliner”. In addition, Pfeiffer played a key role in the introduction of the first cross-over models at Mercedes. In particular, the Mercedes CLS class with the C219 was shaped by Peter Pfeiffer.

On December 7, 2007, Peter Pfeiffer was unanimously elected as the new President of the "German Design Council". Six months later, the Senior Vice President Design "Mercedes Benz" announced that he would retire in mid-2008. In 2009 Peter Pfeiffer founded the "Pfeiffer Design Group", with which he wanted to pass on his 40 years of professional experience in the design sector to a wider group of customers and to young designers. After three years, Peter Pfeiffer left the management of the "Pfeiffer Design Group" in 2012, which then renamed itself "Links der Isar GmbH" and focused on the development of digital corporate strategies.
