Peter Samt (born June 14, 1957 in Graz ) is an Austrian politician ( FPÖ ) and independent planning technician. Samt was a delegated member of the Austrian Federal Council from Styria from June 2015 to December 2019 . Before that he was a member of the Styrian Landtag from November 2010 to June 2015 .

education and profession

Samt attended elementary school in Graz-Liebenau from 1963 to 1967 and then switched to the Dr. Renner secondary school in Graz. After completing compulsory school, he learned the profession of technical draftsman between 1972 and 1975 and at the same time attended the state vocational school in Graz. In 1976 he did his military service with the artillery battalion KAB2 in Gratkorn and then from 1977 to 1980 he attended the higher technical federal teaching and research institute Graz-Gösting .

After his apprenticeship as a technical draftsman at Steyr-Daimler-Puch AG, Samt worked in his training company as a design engineer from 1976 to 1981. In 1981 he became a sales technician at Koch / Bosch-Dienst Graz and then worked from 1985 to 1988 as a sales technician and partner at Berndl GmbH-Vienna. In 1988 he started his own business as a sales representative for assembly and lighting technology, in 1996 he became managing director of the engineering office for lighting and electrical engineering Peter Samt. Samt is also a lecturer and examiner at the Austrian standards institute AS-Plus as a certified lighting technician and founded the Academy for Light and Acoustics in Graz-Eggenberg in 2005. Samt holds seminars there, and he is also a lecturer at municipalities in the course of EU projects.

Politics and functions

In 1995, Samt became a councilor for the market town of Gössendorf and from 1995 to 2005 he was the local party chairman of the FPÖ Gössendorf. Since 2001 he has also been active within the party as a member of the district party leadership of the FPÖ Graz Umgebung and as a member of the regional party executive of the FPÖ Styria and rose in 2004 to the district party chairman of the FPÖ Graz Umgebung. He has also been chairman of the liberal community councils association since 2007 and is active as a RFW mandate and committee member of the Styrian Chamber of Commerce in the federal and state committee of the electrical specialist trade and furnishings committee. After the state elections in 2010 on November 9, 2010, Samt was sworn in as a member of the Styrian state parliament, where he is the area spokesman for the environment, transport, petitions, communities and animal welfare. In March 2015 he became the parish council. In June of that year he resigned from the state parliament after the state elections in 2015 , in order to be sent to the Austrian Federal Council as a Styrian member by the newly elected members of the state parliament . After the state elections in 2019 , he resigned from the Federal Council on December 16, 2019.

Awards

In 2015 he received the Great Decoration of Honor of the State of Styria .

Private

Samt lives in a community and is the father of two sons (* 1983 and 1988).
