Peter Sasse (philosopher)

Peter Sasse , Latinized: Petrus Sassius (born November 30, 1571 in Rostock ; † February 21, 1642 ibid) was a professor of logic at the University of Rostock .

education and study

Peter Sasse was the son of the Rostock businessman and later Rostock mayor and merchant Jakob Sasse and Anna, née. Burunius. He went to school in Rostock and Magdeburg. From 1589 Sasse studied at the University of Rostock , the Brandenburg University of Frankfurt and the Leucorea .

In 1594 Sasse returned to Rostock in order to undertake an educational trip a little later , which lasted until 1597 and took him to Holland, England and France. Subsequently, Sasse continued his studies at the University of Jena and the University of Leipzig .

In 1602 Sasse returned to Rostock and received his doctorate there on July 8th at the Philosophical Faculty.

academic career

In 1602 Peter Sasse was appointed Professor of Logic at the University of Rostock by Duke Adolf Friedrich I. His predecessor was Martin Brasch .

Also in 1602 Sasse married Elisabeth Kellermann, the daughter of the Rostock mayor Johann Kellermann. Since Elisabeth died in 1604, Sasse married Euphrosyne Hagemeister (1584–1620) a year later. This made Sasse the brother-in-law of Matthäus Bacmeister , who was married to Sophie Kellermann (1590–1657).

Sasse held his professorship for four decades and died in Rostock in 1642. His tomb is in the Marienkirche in Rostock . His successor was Caspar Mauritius .

Between 1605 and 1639 Peter Sasse was dean of the Philosophical Faculty eleven times and once rector of the University of Rostock (1608).
