Peter Scarff (born March 29, 1908 in Linwood , † December 9, 1933 ibid) was a Scottish football player .

Career

Peter Scarff was born in Linwood , 14 miles southwest of Glasgow , in 1908 . He first played at Linwood St. Conval's before he signed a contract with Celtic Glasgow on August 27, 1928 and was then given to Maryhill Hibs for some time. He made his debut for the club on January 19, 1929 in a 5-1 victory over Arthurlie FC in the first round of the Scottish Cup . In 1931 he won the cup with Celtic in the final against FC Motherwell . In September 1930 he won as a left winger with a selection of Glasgow against a city selection of Sheffield 4-1. In February 1931 Scarff completed an international match for Scotland against Northern Ireland in Belfast. After a game against Leith Athletic in December 1931, Scarff had to struggle with coughing up blood , so he was immediately admitted to the sanatorium of Bridge of Weir . Despite hopes of recovery, a return to the football field was ruled out in May 1933. On December 9, 1933 Scarff died at the age of 25 years to tuberculosis .
