The Protestant village church Schorbus is a listed church building in the Schorbus district of the small town of Drebkau in the Spree-Neisse district in southern Brandenburg .

Building description and history

A church in Schorbus was first mentioned in a document in 1226.

The Schorbus village church, built in the 14th and 15th centuries , is an elevated hall building with a saddle roof made of field and brick . In the west of the nave there is a square tower with a bent tent roof , which in the upper part has ogival sound openings on all four sides. To the east of the nave is a polygonal apse, and to the south there are two brick porches. The apse and vestibules were added during extensive renovation work in 1862. In the north is the annex of a later added sacristy with barrel vault.

An extensive restoration and maintenance experienced the building during the period from 2002 to 2005. After that, it could be placed at Easter 2006. at the service of the community.

The interior of the church is characterized by a baroque west gallery on which the organ is located.

It also has a late Gothic carved altar that dates from the last quarter of the 15th or first quarter of the 16th century . In the middle shrine Anna can be seen between two female saints . There are other figures of saints on the inside and outside of the wings. The wooden altarpiece is from 1582. The wooden pulpit of the church dates from 1598. In the pulpit there are paintings of the evangelists.

There is also a baptismal angel from the 1st half of the 18th century, which is also under monument protection . This carving was restored in 2002.

Tombs

In the choir of the church there is a children's tombstone with an inscription for Eva von Kottwitz, who died in 1591 . On the outer south wall there are six gravestones with inscriptions from the 18th century. There is also a classicist grave monument for August Fürchtegott Petsch († 1806).

There is also a memorial to the fallen in the form of a stele for the villagers who died in the First World War in the cemetery directly next to the church . A war grave from the Second World War with the names of three fallen soldiers and several individual graves can be found.
