Peter Stump (* 1525 ; † October 31, 1589 in Bedburg ), called Stubbe-Peter , committed at least 16 murders , rapes and incest over a period of 25 years in the guise of a werewolf . Furthermore, he was accused of magic and living with a "devil". Found guilty on October 28, 1589, he was wheeled and beheaded a few days later . His body was then cremated.

About 250 werewolf trials from the period between 1423 and 1720 are documented in the literature. This case was noticed even in the Netherlands , England and Denmark in 1589/1590 . His deeds and the execution were depicted on engravings . The case is passed down mainly through these foreign publications.

The files on this witch trial have not survived. The contemporary sources and pamphlets all speak of Stump being judged . The original gout is expressly mentioned.

In memory of this case, the werewolf in this area is still called Stüpp today . The Bedburg (Erft) werewolf hiking trail provides information on seven stations about the life and death of Peter Stubbe.
