Peter Weltner (* 26. February 1952 in Würzburg as Klaus-Peter Johann Weltner ) is a German organist and composer in the field of jazz , blues , rock and soul .

Life

Weltner is a career changer as a musician and composer. Although he was already being taught the piano at the age of 6 and the accordion was added at the age of 12, then at 14 he added the electronic organ to his spectrum . This was followed by an apprenticeship and master craftsman's certificate in the orthopedic mechanic trade; Weltner worked as a self-employed craftsman from 1979 to 2001. Only then, or sometimes in parallel, did he pursue a degree at the University of Music in Würzburg in order to then swap work and hobby.

Act

Weltner switched from the piano to the Hammond organ . As a soloist and with his former organ-drums duo Hammond, Keys & Drums , Hammond Daze , Organic Heat and currently Peter Weltner Duo , he has appeared since 2001 on stages of clubs of jazz, blues and rock scene, but also in concert churches between Rostock and Zurich, Berlin and Eindhoven . Usually there is a stage piano on the organ set and another keyboard next to it . Weltner often plays his compositions Colors of Live , Opus 1 and Memorandum Theatrale at piano concerts . He is also an endorser for Hammond.

Especially for the Hammond B3 he wrote the pieces Hammond Dreaming , Ray of Hope Hymn to Love , City Train , Rock Sacrifice November Blues . At all concerts, however, his spontaneous stage improvisations dominate. His rock music was influenced by Keith Emerson and Jon Lord , in the blues Jimmy Smith was the godfather and Booker T. Jones was responsible for his soul. The audio and video recordings available so far were made in the course of live performances. At the Dreikönig concert in 2014 in the parish church of Heilig Kreuz (Soest), Weltner played on the Hammond and church organ - sometimes at the same time. This experiment was recorded on DVD as a one-hour organ rendezvous .
