Peter Wiepert

Peter Wiepert (born July 19, 1890 in Bisdorf auf Fehmarn ; † February 21, 1980 Bisdorf auf Fehmarn) was a farmer, writer, Fehmarn local researcher and long-time director of the Fehmarn Museum in Burg auf Fehmarn , which bore his name until 2014.

Life

According to his own account, Wiepert began researching the history and customs of the island of Fehmarn when he was a teenager . During the Weimar Republic he wrote articles for newspapers and magazines.

Through his cousin Lina Heydrich , a native of the East and a native Femahran, he came under the influence of National Socialism and promised himself that the regime would promote his local history work. He joined the NSDAP in 1939 , met with Himmler and cooperated with the Gestapo .

On behalf of Heydrich managed Wiepert to the SS Nordhav Foundation belonging Katharinenhof Fehmarn , which was operated as an SS convalescent home.

At the end of 1941, the publishing house of the SS foundation " Ahnenerbe " published Peter Wiepert's book Guide through the city of Burg and the villages of the island of Fehmarn. A contribution to local history .

After 1945

After the end of the war he was interned by the Allies for a few months until the end of May and denazified in 1949.

Until his death, Wiepert made numerous contributions in High German and Low German for newspapers and magazines, as well as for radio and television. He self- published some of his writings as “ gray literature ”.
