politics

Zwick began his political career in the community in which he lived in Münchenstein, where he was a member of the community commission from 1995 to 2001. From 1999 to 2007 he was District Administrator of the Canton of Basel-Landschaft, and for the last four years he has chaired the CVP / EPP parliamentary group.

Until his election as a government councilor, Zwick was also active in church committees. From 1986 to 1998 he presided over the Roman Catholic parish of Münchenstein and from 2000 to 2007 the Roman Catholic regional church of Basel-Landschaft.

In February 2007, Zwick was elected to the government council as the successor to Elsbeth Schneider (also CVP) and was confirmed in 2011. He headed the Department of Economics and Health, which he took over from Erich Straumann (SVP). He died in office on February 23, 2013 at the age of 62, after having had to take a break of two months the previous year because of his cancer.

In the so-called fee affair, the heirs of Zwick repaid 46,403 francs to the canton for incorrectly settled compensation for mandates held by Frick as a member of the government.
