Peterchens Mondfahrt is a German television film by Gerhard F. Hering from 1959. It is based on the fairy tale Peterchens Mondfahrt by Gerdt von Bassewitz . It was produced for the Northwest German Broadcasting Corporation and first broadcast on December 25, 1959.

The children Peter and Anneliese are visited one evening by a cockchafer named Mr. Sumsemann. Since Mr. Sumsemann has lost one of his six legs on the moon , the children accompany him on his journey there. On their journey, the three numerous anthropomorphic elementals and legendary figures meet , including the Sandman, the Lightning Witch and Santa Claus. After an adventurous journey through the Milky Way , they finally defeat the man in the moon and can give Mr. Sumsemann his missing leg back. They fly back to earth with the cockchafer and find themselves in their beds just as their mother comes to wake them up.
