Peters Kölsch is a brand of the Haus Kölscher Brautradition GmbH group of companies within the Radeberger Group of the Oetker Group .

history

On November 26, 1847, Peter Josef Peters received permission to brew beer in Monheim . This date is now taken as the official founding date of the brewery. However, there has been a beer brewing tradition in Monheim since 1262. This date is still on older Kölsch sticks from Peters Kölsch. The company name was changed to "Monheimer Brauerei Peters & Bambeck" on January 1, 1965, and from October 1, 1999 the brewery operated under the name "Peters & Bambeck Private Brewery". The Kölsch in the brewing range of this Monheimer brewery was marketed under the brand name Peters Echt Kölsch at the time until 1965 .

When the brewery was being rebuilt, Peters Kölsch was brewed in 1991 by the Sieg-Rheinische Germania brewery and later by the Kölsch brewery Giesler using the contract brewing process. In 2000, the Peters & Bambeck private brewery in Monheim had - in addition to Peters Kölsch - six other different types of beer in its brewing and retail range: Altbier , Pils , Malzbier , Festbier, Weizenbier and Kräusen-Pils yeast cloudy . The total annual production at this time was around 30,000 hector liters, with a draft beer share of around 95 percent. In 2004 the private brewery Peters & Bambeck was given up and initially sold to Brau und Brunnen ; A short time later, the historic brewery in Monheim am Rhein was finally closed.

Peters Kölsch today

Peters Kölsch has been made by the Gilden Kölsch brewery in Cologne-Mülheim since 2004 . brewed. This Kölsch is available from the bottle in 0.33 l swing-top bottles and - in "selected beverage stores" and in the Peters Brauhaus - as "Littermännchen" (liter bottles). Annual production today is around 20,000 hectoliters. The designation as "Peters & Bambeck traditional brewery - family tradition since 1847" was retained on the labels of the beer bottles until 2012; Since then, this misleading information has not been used for advertising, but rather with “In the tradition of Peters & Bambeck”, although the actual (producing) brewery is still not shown on the labels.

Peters Brewery

The Peters & Bambeck brewery bought the former “Zum Kranz” brewery at the beginning of Mühlengasse on Cologne's Alter Markt in 1994 and converted the historic building back into a Cologne brewery in the original style of the “Peters Brauhaus”. Today, the Peters Brauhaus is also a stop on the Cologne Brewery Trail, which follows the tracks and addresses of historic Cologne breweries and breweries.
