Petra Wesseler

Petra Wesseler (* 1963 in Paderborn ) is a German architect and has been President of the Federal Office for Building and Regional Planning , the highest building authority in the Federal Republic of Germany, since February 2015 .

Wesseler studied architecture and urban planning in Braunschweig and Stuttgart and graduated with a diploma . She then worked in architecture firms in London .

Wesseler completed a legal traineeship for the higher civil engineering administration at the Federal Building Directorate Berlin (BBD), the predecessor authority of the Federal Office for Building and Regional Planning (BBR). Since 1993 she has worked at BBD and after merging with the Federal Research Center for Regional Studies and Regional Planning (BfLR) to form BBR as head of department and training manager. In 1994/95 she had a teaching position for town planning and design at the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus . From 2002 to 2015 Wesseler headed the Urban Development and Construction Department of the City of Chemnitz . From 2003 to 2013 she was also a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation .
