Local politics

In 1990, Wust started working for the city administration of Wolfen as a finance officer. A year later she also became deputy mayor. In September 2001 she was elected deputy mayor by the Wolfen city council. From November 2001 she was acting mayor because of the serious illness of the incumbent Lutz Born. In the Mayor election on January 26, 2003, as a non-party , she surprisingly won a majority in the first ballot.

When the joint town of Bitterfeld-Wolfen was founded, Wust was appointed acting mayor as the mayor of the largest part of town in July 2007 . She was confirmed in office in the new city's first mayor election in November 2009. As the founding mayor, she faced the challenge of breaking down double structures and at the same time creating a new sense of community. As she was certified in retrospect, she coped well with this phase. Her administrative experience and local knowledge and the ability to take a clear position helped her. In later years it was criticized that she lacked the will to design. With the economic crisis, the city's income fell, the initial success story of Solar Valley broke off in 2012 with the insolvency of Q-Cells . After the 2014 local elections, relations between the woman in charge of the city and the city council deteriorated. Some councils attacked Wust again and again. During this time, due to her non-party status, she lacked a power base that she could fall back on. In 2015, Wust took a clear position against right-wing violence in the city.

For reasons of age, Wust did not stand for election in 2017. Her term ended on March 5, 2017.
