features

Petrocosmea rosettifolia is an herbaceous , perennial plant . The leaves sit in dense rosettes on up to 4 cm long, finely hairy petioles. The slightly hairy leaf blade is about 0.5 to 4 cm long and 0.4 to 3 cm wide, broadly ovoid or broadly elliptical to circular and has a round to broadly pointed base. The edge is smooth or notched towards the blunt to broadly pointed tip. The cross veining is inconspicuous.

The flowers are solitary on up to 6 cm long, hairy stems. The bracts are elongated-lanceolate to sharply pointed and 1 to 3 mm long. The calyx has five radial symmetry, the sepals are about 5 mm long and densely hairy on the outside.

The crown is sparsely hairy on the outside and has two lips with an approximately 5 mm long, clearly two-parted lip facing the axis and a three-part, 7 to 8 mm long lip facing away from the axis. The two stamens carry anthers about 2 mm long on a 1 mm long hairless filament . There are also three staminodes . The stylus is about 1.2 cm long, the slightly hairy ovary measures about 5 mm in diameter. The fruit is a capsule fruit about 1 cm long . The flowering and fruiting times are in October.

As an ornamental plant, variants with a much larger and differently shaped flower corolla are available.
