The mat-forming rock spar ( Petrophytum caespitosum ) is a species of plant from the genus Petrophytum in the rose family (Rosaceae).

features

The mat-forming rock spar is an evergreen dwarf shrub that reaches heights of 4 to 12 centimeters. The leaves are usually 7 to 12, rarely from 5 or up to 14 millimeters long, rarely from 1, usually 1.5 to 4 millimeters wide and spatulate to lanceolate. The underside of the leaf is single-nerved. The peduncle is 2 to 8 inches long, the inflorescence 2 to 5 inches. The calyx lobes are lanceolate-triangular. There are 20 stamens.

The flowering period extends from June to August.

Occurrence

The mat-forming rock spar occurs in the western USA in rock crevices and on sloping rock corridors on limestone and granite.
