Petros Berga

Petros Berga (born December 24, 1967 in Addis Ababa , Ethiopia ) is an Ethiopian Roman Catholic clergyman and apostolic visitor for the Ethiopian Catholic believers of the Old Ethiopian Rite (Ge'ez) in Europe.

Life

Petros Berga studied at the site Utrecht the Faculty of Catholic theology Tilburg and received 1998, the sacrament of the priesthood for the Diocese of Haarlem-Amsterdam .

He worked as a pastor in Edam and at the same time was charged with pastoral care for the Ethiopian believers. On the basis of an agreement with the Addis Ababa Archepark , he went to Ethiopia, where he became secretary of the Bishops' Conference . He later worked as the pastoral care coordinator of the Archeparch.

Petros Berga participated in various scientific initiatives. Several times he took part in international conferences. He has also written a number of scientific publications on Ethiopian monasticism, Ethiopian iconography, spirituality and music.

On January 7, 2020, Pope Francis appointed him Apostolic Visitator for the Ethiopian Catholic believers in Europe.
