history

In 1954, the urban planner Ernst May , head of planning at Neue Heimat Hamburg, designed the Bremerhaven- Grünhöfe housing estate for almost 10,000 people.

The Evangelical Lutheran Petrus Congregation, at that time the fifth parish in Geestemünd, built the congregation and parsonage in the new district in 1957/1960 according to plans by Gerd Krüger.

The Petruskirche was built from 1965 to 1967 according to plans by Carsten Schröck, Bremen. Schröck designed numerous churches in the state of Bremen . According to the Landesdenkmalpflege, he succeeded “not only in an artistically outstanding design of a church, but also combined the existing buildings with the new building to create a coherent overall picture.” The nave consists of a large gable roof rising from the ground, flooded with light on the straight one Concrete altar wall and on the lower sides.

Heinz Lilienthal , Bremen, designed the glass windows in the community hall in 1957. The sculptor Gerhart Schreiter , Bremen, designed the cycle of concrete relief on the altar wall in the church in 1967.

The organ from 1971 comes from Alfred Führer , has 17 registers over two manuals and a pedal .
