The Pfärrig ( Coregonus confusus ), also known as Pfärrit , is a rare freshwater fish species from the genus Coregonus within the subfamily Coregoninae .
features
The Pfärrig has a standard length of 350 mm. It has 33 to 38 gill spines. The body height is 85 to 92 mm. The head length is 68 to 76 mm. The back is moderately arched.
Way of life
The Pfärrig is a deep water inhabitant. The spawning season is between December and January. In Lake Murten, the eggs were laid on sand and in the mud at a depth of 35 to 40 m. In Lake Biel the spawn is deposited on slopes 2 to 20 m deep.
status
The Pfärrig was described by Victor Fatio in 1885 as a subspecies of the Balchen Coregonus annectus confusus (today's binomials: Coregonus suidteri ). The specimen copy marked as Syntype was lost in 1902. 2008 Coregonus confusus by the IUCN was due to the very small distribution area in the category of "endangered" ( vulnerable ) classified. The species used to occur in Lake Biel , Lake Murten and probably in Lake Neuchâtel . Today the occurrence is limited to Lake Biel. The population in Lake Murten died out in the 1960s due to eutrophication and changes in the water level.
