Parish church Altach
The Roman Catholic parish church of Altach is located in the municipality of Altach in the Feldkirch district in Vorarlberg . The parish church , consecrated to St. Nicholas of Myra , belongs to the Rankweil deanery of the Feldkirch diocese . The church is a listed building .
history
In 1591 a chapel is mentioned in a document and was a branch of Götzis . From 1823 to 1825 a church was built according to the plans of the builder Weiß and consecrated as a parish church in 1825. From 1956 to 1960 a new building was built according to the plans of the architect Norbert Kopf . The consecration was in 1962.
architecture
The church is a hall building with a lower church and a retracted choir under a flat gable roof. The church tower is free. The hall with a gable roof-shaped wooden ceiling has walls with pilaster strips and skylight windows. The chancel is drawn in and raised with a straight end, the straight gallery stands on six pillars. The glass paintings were carried out by the Tyrolean Glass Painting Company, in the hall and in the baptistery based on designs by Heinrich Stäubli , and in the chancel based on a design by Hannes Bertle .
Furnishing
The figure of St. Maria on the right side altar is a work by the Elbigenalp carving school . The tabernacle and the candlesticks are works by the sculptor Roger Lutz . The crossways reliefs and the main portal with the copper relief burning thorn bush are by Emil Gehrer . The side portals with depictions of Jesus and Peter at the Sea of Galilee , denial of Peter , the handing over of keys to Peter and the secret message of the saints and the apocalyptic Lamb are the work of the sculptor Willi Veit . The baptismal font and the holy water font with reliefs Expulsion from Paradise , Promise of the Redeemer in Paradise , Flood and Noah's thanks and baptism are by Kaspar Albrecht .
The three-manual organ was created in 1972 by Rieger Orgelbau and has been playing regularly since 2011 in the concerts of the Altacher Orgelsoireen .
Lady Chapel
The Marienkapelle is a lower church. There are paintings Visitation , Nativity , Presentation in the Temple , Flight to Egypt , Miracles in Canaan , Meeting of Mary with Jesus , Mary under the Cross , Pietà and Meeting with the Risen One by Hans Scherling .
Cemetery and war memorial
The cemetery is to the south of the church. There is a crucifix from the 19th century. The war memorial was designed by Emil Gehrer.
