The parish church of Blumau an der Wild is located in Blumau an der Wild in the market town of Ludweis-Aigen in the Waidhofen an der Thaya district in Lower Austria . The Roman Catholic parish church consecrated to St. John the Baptist - incorporated into the Geras Abbey - belongs to the Geras deanery in the diocese of St. Pölten . The church is a listed building ( list entry ).

history

A church was incorporated into the Geras monastery around 1155. A parish church was mentioned in a document around 1230. Around 1750 the church was rebuilt under Abbot Paul Gratschmayr.

architecture

The church stands in the north-east of the village as the northern end of a street square, raised on a step and surrounded by a walled cemetery with a charnel house. The late baroque hall church has an east tower at the head of the choir and a northern addition to the sacristy .

Furnishing

The marbled interior was built after the middle of the 18th century. The high altar - occupying the back wall of the choir - with innovations from the 19th century has a mighty column structure with slightly swinging three-column side parts with the statues Sebastian, Zacharias, Elisabeth, Johannes Nepomuk. The altarpiece from the second half of the 19th century and in a baroque frame depicts John the Baptist. The ceiling frescoes with scenes from the life of the church patron, the Visitation of Mary , the naming of John, the baptism of Christ and the beheading of John were Created by Franz Zoller in 1777 .
