The parish church of Eben im Pongau stands a little higher on the western edge of the village in the municipality of Eben im Pongau in the St. Johann im Pongau district in the State of Salzburg . The Roman Catholic parish church, which is subject to the patronage of St. Mary , belongs to the Altenmarkt dean's office in the Archdiocese of Salzburg . The church is a listed building ( list entry ).

history

The church was built from 1948 to 1951 according to the plans of the architect Viktor Winkler. The church was consecrated in 1951 and made a parish church in 1954.

architecture

The church is surrounded by a cemetery. The simple exterior has a gable roof covered with wooden shingles. The entrance portal is located to the west. To the north of the nave there is a war memorial niche with the mural St. Michael painted by Karl Weiser (1959). The southern tower has hatches and a tent roof. To the east of the church are the round apse and sacristy extensions.

The hall has a flat ceiling with a wooden ceiling paneling in the central nave that is deepened into the choir. On the right there is a passage to the tower hall as a baptistery. The mighty west gallery on pillars has two side staircases. The choir, raised by three steps, has a small apse niche with glass paintings by Josef Staud , left and right of the choir are entrances to sacristies.

The death chapel in the northeast corner of the cemetery as a round building with a conical roof was built during the construction of the church.

Furnishing

The furniture was created by Josef Staud around 1960. In the apse there is a crucifix around 1870, which was taken from the parish church of Salzburg-St. Andrä was transferred here. The tabernacle in the choir and the reliefs of the side altars were created by Josef Staud, on the left St. Mary with child, right St. Joseph with a figure relief of the professions. The Stations of the Cross as clay reliefs were created by the sculptor Josef Kahls around 1960. The baptistery in the tower hall contains a baptismal font in relief and a glass painting by Josef Staud.

The organ was built by Bruno Riedl (1977).
