Parish church Grafendorf near Friesach
The Roman Catholic parish church Grafendorf in the municipality of Friesach is consecrated to James the Elder . The church was first mentioned in a document probably in 1043, but certainly in 1248.
Building description
The church is originally a Romanesque building, which is probably still preserved in the masonry of the mighty tower and the baroque vaulted nave . In the tower with round-arched sound windows and a pointed gable helmet hangs a bell cast around 1500 with the names of the four evangelists. The west portal is adorned in the throat with rosettes, heads and crabs, the iron door has fittings in circular and spiral shapes.
A baroque barrel vault with stitch caps rises above the nave . On the three-axis, late Gothic west gallery stands an organ built around 1850 with a simple, classicist case. A pointed triumphal arch connects the nave and the one and a half yoke choir with a five-eighth end . In the choir, a ribbed vault from the first half of the 15th century rests on consoles. The keystones represent the head of Christ, a roof and a dog. The late Gothic sacrament niche is flanked by side console angels.
Facility
The high altar from 1756 comes from the workshop of Johann Pacher . The altar on the main floor bears the figures of Saints James, Florian , Donatus and probably also Saints Valentin and Leonhard . The group of figures in the essay represents the Holy Family .
The altar panel of the left side altar shows the coronation of Mary and is marked with "MG 1666". The carved figure of the enthroned Madonna on the right side altar dates from the middle of the 15th century, the child and the crown were added in the Baroque era.
The pulpit from 1689 has painted representations of saints on the parapet. A crucifix from the 18th century hangs over the triumphal arch . The church also features an oil painting of St. John Nepomuk from 1724 in an acanthus frame and a late Gothic statue of St. James from the second half of the 15th century.
