Apostolic Nuncio in Bulgaria
The Apostolic Nuncio in Bulgaria is the permanent diplomatic representative of the Holy See to the Government of the State of Bulgaria .
In 1925, the Holy See sent Angelo Giuseppe Roncalli, who later became Pope John XXIII, as the first modern diplomat . , to Sofia . During the time of the People's Republic of Bulgaria , the two states had no diplomatic relations. Only after democratization did the Holy See send a nuncio to Sofia again in 1991 .
