The Roman Catholic parish church Kaindorf stands on a terrace next to the street in Kaindorf in the market town of Kaindorf in Styria . The parish church of St. James the Elder belongs to the Hartberg deanery in the Graz-Seckau diocese . It is a listed building .

history

The church was mentioned in a document in 1313 and raised to a parish church after 1445 . The core of the medieval building has been preserved in the basement of the tower. The current church was built between 1715 and 1717 with the master builder Remigius Horner . The interior was restored in 1947 and 1967, and in 1970 the facility was restored.

architecture

The church with a pilaster exterior structure has a four- bay nave , to which a three-conch choir typical of Horner connects. The three-axis organ loft stands on pillars. Inside the church has pilasters placed three on top of each other , on which the belts of the groin vaults rest on arched shields above the windows. In the south of the fourth nave yoke stands the square tower with an octagonal bell storey from the construction period; he has a pointed helmet designed by Hans Pascher (1896). The baroque sacristy is on the north side of the choir. The glass windows in the choir with portrait medallions of the four evangelists were made in Innsbruck at the beginning of the 20th century.

A remarkable epitaph on Friedrich von Teuffenbach, who died in 1621, is attached to the outside of the southern front .

Furnishing

The organ from 1759

The high altar according to a plan by Remigius Horner is no longer preserved. That high altar from 1884 was removed again in 1967. The high altar sheet from 1743 shows the photo of St. Jakobus with a view of Kaindorf, it comes from the painter Johann Baptist Scheith . The side altars from 1887 are dedicated to St. Mary and St. Consecrated to Anna. The upper image of the Coronation of the Virgin was painted by Johann Cyriak Hackhofer in the first quarter of the 18th century. In the tower chapel there is an altar with a portrait of the Crucifixion from the first half of the 18th century. The pulpit from 1719, based on a design by Remigius Horner, carries a figure of Christ as judge of the world on the acoustic roof.

The baroque organ was made by the organ builder Josef Hofstetter (1759), it bears the figure of King David. The organ was expanded in 1916 and received a new work from the Mauracher company in 1927 .
