The Nikolauskirche in Neumarkt has been the parish church of Neumarkt am Wallersee since 1859 . It stands a little to the west at the north end of the main street in the municipality of Neumarkt am Wallersee in the Salzburg-Umgebung district in the state of Salzburg . The Roman Catholic Church, consecrated to the patronage of St. Nicholas of Myra (December 6th), belongs to the Deanery Köstendorf in the Archdiocese of Salzburg . The church is a listed building ( list entry ).

history

A church was documented in 1389. The church stands at the confluence of Steinbach and Statzenbach to Wallerbach within a remarkable earth wall from 1638/1639. An early baroque gate tower is built into the east wall. A largely new building was erected between 1725 and 1728. In 1784 a cemetery was laid out west of the church in the ramparts. In 1859 the branch of the parish church Köstendorf was elevated to a parish church. After a fire in 1887, a new building was built on the foundations of the baroque building. The church was rededicated in 1888. In 1946 and 1971 there were restorations.

architecture

High altar

The historic hall church has a baroque south tower. The line of sight to the main street was blocked in 1912 by the construction of a two-story elementary school.

A recessed choir with a straight end connects to the cubically proportioned nave from 1887/1888 under a crooked roof. The portal porches were added in 1971. On the south side of the choir is the stone-faced baroque tower with arched sound windows, clock gables and a pyramid helmet. On the north side of the choir there is a sacristy and oratory extension up to the line of the nave. A bricked-in stone names SA 1651.

The interior of the nave with an almost square floor plan appears centralized on giant pilasters thanks to a trough-shaped vault. In the western Emporenjoch, the former three-aisled structure of the church was retained by pillar supports and arches. The choir has a stab cap barrel over double pilasters. The flat ceiling in the oratory has a baroque stucco frame.

Furnishing

The altars from 1888 in the neo-renaissance style have columnar adicules with extensions. The three-axis high altar with a tabernacle structure shows the high altar sheet Nicholas and the coronation of Mary in the excerpt and bears the side figures Laurentius and Katharina. The left side altar shows the altar sheet Maria Rosary Queen and carries the side figures Florian and Sebastian. The right side altar bears a crucifix in the middle and the figures of Mary and John the Evangelist to the side. There is the carved figure Man of Sorrows from the early 18th century, probably as a successor to Meinrad Guggenbichler, and the carved figure Leonhard around 1960.

The organ was built by Albert Mauracher (1888).
