The Roman Catholic parish church of Obergänserndorf stands a little higher east of the village of Obergänserndorf in the municipality of Harmannsdorf in the Korneuburg district in Lower Austria . It is consecrated to Saint Barbara and belongs to the dean's office in Korneuburg in the vicariate Unter dem Manhartsberg of the Archdiocese of Vienna . The building is under monument protection ( list entry ).

Location description

The church stands on the eastern edge of the village in an elevated position above the village.

history

The parish was founded in 1784. The current building was built in 1813.

architecture

Exterior description

The church is a hall building with a drawn-in choir room that closes in a flat arch. The church windows are rectangular. The front yoke with the entrance facade is somewhat narrower than the rest of the nave. The slightly protruding church tower with arched sound windows and bell dome rises above the front yoke . The “old sacristy” from 1813 adjoins the choir to the north, and a new one-storey sacristy annex to the south.

Inside description

The corners of the nave are bevelled. There is a flat ceiling over the chancel. The side walls are structured by pilasters . To the west is a wooden organ gallery.

Furnishing

The late baroque high altar from the second half of the 18th century is a double column retable with a canteen . Flame vases stand on the baroque curved gable. The altarpiece shows Saint Barbara . It was painted by Karl Kögl in 1846 . In the altarpiece, the Mother of God is depicted as a relief with Baby Jesus, God the Father and angels. The side console figures represent holy bishops.

The side altar from the first half of the 18th century was also created in baroque forms. It consists of two half columns that stand on a high pedestal . Above is a curved gable. To the side are baroque console figures depicting the biblical characters Moses and Aaron . The stations of the cross in relief date from the beginning of the 19th century.

The organ was built by Johann M. Kauffmann in 1921.
