Fresco: adoration of the child

The parish church of Pörtschach am Berg is dedicated to St. Lambert . It is elevated on a hill in Pörtschach am Berg on the eastern foothills of the Ulrichsberg in the municipality of Maria Saal . The second mass is celebrated here as part of the Vierberg run . The Möderndorf branch church also belongs to the parish .

history

The church was donated by Duke Otto of Carinthia between 978 and 983 and was originally planned for a monastery, which in 983 was also equipped with goods on Ulrichsberg and Glan by Emperor Otto II . Due to the early death of the duke and the objection of the Salzburg archbishop , the monastery never came into being. It was not until 1799 that Pörtschach was elevated to the status of a curate . In 1963 the interior of the church was restored.

Building

This former fortified church , which is surrounded by a cemetery, is a Romanesque choir tower church that has been converted to baroque style . The squat east tower with arched sound windows is crowned with a baroque onion dome. The bell was cast by Mathias Landsmann in 1694. The straight end choir was probably built in the 16th century. The late Gothic sacristy with the leg chamber below is attached to the north side of the tower and, like the nave, was changed in the baroque period. The nave is covered with stone slabs. The church is entered through a simple roofed west portal with a straight lintel. Roman tombstones are attached to the south side, including a servant and grave inscriptions for Vercaius, Agisia, Quartus and for Verus.

A baroque lancet vault , which rests on flat wall pilasters, extends over the three-bay nave . The masonry west gallery stands on two stone pillars. The square of the tower has a rough ribbed vault, which was probably built in the second half of the 15th century, the choir has a barrel vault and a flat semicircle. A late Gothic portal leads from the tower square into the two-bay, groin-vaulted sacristy. In the south wall of the choir there is a lava niche with a stonemason's mark. On the south side of the choir square is a late Gothic octagonal baptismal font .

Frescoes

In 1963, frescoes from around 1400 were uncovered on the north wall of the tower square. They are fragmented due to renovations over time. Above are Mary with the child, a scene from the Mount of Olives , the crucifixion and the resurrection of Christ, including the adoration of the child. In 1983, a classicist triumphal arch fresco and baroque paintings on the triumphal arch were exposed. These show the saints Bruno and Hugo .

Facility

The high altar with the blasted segmented gable was built around 1725. In the central niche stands the statue of St. Lambert, above the sacrificial passage portals that of St. Ulrich and Blasius . The essay depicts the Holy Trinity.

The two side altars from the third quarter of the 18th century with painted mock architecture show the saints Franz Xavier and Valentin on the murals . Below that hang between two chandelier angels in baroque oval frames, a picture of the painful Madonna and a holy main picture.

Rectory

The single-storey rectory with a mighty hipped roof was built in the 17th century.

Stations of the Cross

On the slope between the rectory and the church there are baroque wayside shrines placed steeply in the slope. These were artistically designed from 1982 to 1983 by Heinz Möseneder with students from the Bundesgymnasium Tanzenberg . The resurrection above the cemetery gate was made by Heinz Möseneder himself and was gilded in 2009.
