The parish church Parsch Zum Kostbaren Blut is a Roman Catholic parish church at Geißmayerstraße 6 in the Parsch district in the city of Salzburg .

church

The church was built into a farm, called Weichselbaumhöft , built after 1866 , which was owned by the Archabbey of St. Peter .

The open-mindedness of the Congregation of Missionaries of the Precious Blood , which was responsible for the pastoral care of the parish established in 1948, and the personal commitment of Pastor Father Wilhelm Eisenbarth led to a planning request from the architect Clemens Holzmeister . Holzmeister recommended working group 4 , consisting of Wilhelm Holzbauer (1930–2019), Friedrich Kurrent (* 1931) and Johannes Spalt (1920–2010). So young architects found work and created one of the first new churches of the modern age in Austria after the Second World War .

The new building of the parish church from 1954 to 1956 according to the design from 1953 integrates a low 3-aisled, 3-yoke, square-vaulted area with slender granite columns of the old manor as a bench area. Behind it, a high room with a transverse gable roof is used as a chancel, with the rear roof surface being glazed. The sanctuary works through the free space, through height, volume and light. The view through the roof glazing into the belfry and the pent roof above is reminiscent of the architecture of valley stations , which is why the nickname Cable Car Station of God developed.

Important visual artists were involved, a crucifix by Fritz Wotruba is above the main entrance, the concrete glass windows are by Josef Mikl , and Richard Kurt Fischer carved drawings of the Fall of Man and the Baptism of Christ based on designs by Oskar Kokoschka in the still fresh concrete of the church portal. A crucifix by Jakob Adlhart is placed above the altar . On the side of the chancel is a figure of the Madonna around 1520.
