Josef Mikl
Josef Mikl (born August 8, 1929 in Vienna ; † March 29, 2008 there ) was an Austrian painter and graphic artist .
Life
From 1946 to 1948, Josef Mikl attended the Higher Graphic Education and Research Institute in Vienna. Then studied from 1948 to 1955 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna with Josef Dobrowsky . In 1956 he founded the artist group “Galerie next St. Stephan” with Wolfgang Hollegha , Markus Prachensky and Arnulf Rainer . In 1964 he exhibited at documenta III ; In 1977 he took part in documenta 6 . In 1968 Mikl represented Austria at the Venice Biennale. From 1969 to 1997 Mikl was a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna.
Mikl represented an abstract realism with the human figure as the central theme. Drawing was of particular importance to him.
Mikl died of cancer at the age of 78 and was buried in the Döblingen cemetery .

- Emmaus picture on the altar wall of the Emmaus Chapel in the St. Virgil Education Center in Salzburg
- 1992–1997: Ceiling painting and 22 wall paintings in the Great Redoutensaal of the Vienna Hofburg (after the fire in 1992)
