The Roman Catholic parish church of St. Georgen am Steinfelde is located in the St. Georgen am Steinfelde district in the municipality of St. Pölten in Lower Austria . The church consecrated to St. George belongs to the Deanery St. Pölten in the diocese of St. Pölten . The church building is a listed building .

history

A church was mentioned in a document in 1248. The church was a vicariate church in the 14th century. During the Turkish war (1683) the church was partly destroyed. The church was rebuilt in 1749 with Josef Wissgrill . In 1784 the church was elevated to a parish church. 1899 was a renovation. Aisles were added to the nave in 1934 . The interior was restored in 1969/1970.

The church on the western outskirts is surrounded to the north and west by a former cemetery wall.

Church exterior

The high central nave has four-axis aisles on the north and south sides with arched windows and small porches on both sides. The one- bay choir with a five-eighth end and buttresses has three originally two-lane pointed arch windows with tracery. The presented west tower - essentially from the 14th century - has a baroque upper floor with arched sound windows and a tent roof from the 19th century.

Furnishing

The organ was built by the Rieger brothers from Jägerndorf (1894).
