history

In the course of the construction of the large community housing estate on Wilhelm-Kreß-Platz in the 1960s, the Archdiocese of Vienna made the decision to set up its own pastoral care center or parish on the edge of the Vienna Central Cemetery . At that time this area was still part of the parish Altsimmering , from which it was completely separated when the new parish was created. The building site was also given to the new parish of Altsimmering.

In the spring of 1988, Auxiliary Bishop Florian Kuntner laid the foundation stone for the new church, and on November 1st of the same year the parish exposition of St. Luke was set up in the registers . On April 2, 1989, a Sunday service could be celebrated in the church for the first time. The three bells, the parish kindergarten, the parish hall and the rectory were consecrated by Cardinal Hans Hermann Groër on December 23, 1989, who also consecrated the church on March 4, 1990 .
