The building at Braunhubergasse 20 in the Simmering district is a work by Roland Rainer . The architect won first place with his design in the competition for a model Protestant church in 1952, an invitation to tender by the Evangelical Higher Church Council . The design served as the basis for planning the Belief Church, which was built from 1962 to 1963.

The simple structure is made of concrete, brick, glass and spruce wood and has an asphalt floor. A cross made of glass bricks is set into the wall above the altar. The length of the room is optically extended by a low glass front behind the altar, which allows a view to the outside, and daylight is bundled towards the altar. As a cube, the main church space is almost as high as it is long. To the right of the altar, a lower church side room with a sliding wall to the main room can be opened and used as required. Both church rooms and other adjoining rooms form an inner courtyard: In one corner there is an eight-meter-high simple bell tower with the three bells "Faith", "Love" and "Hope"; at the front, a covered corridor closes from an entrance to the church portal the courtyard to an atrium. The structural demarcation from the urban environment thus forms a closed whole with different spiritual areas.

Of the five church buildings planned and realized by Roland Rainer, the Church of the Faith is the only one in Vienna. The church building and community center are under monument protection.

history

The parish of Simmering, located in the church, belongs to the Evangelical Superintendent of Vienna . It was established as a sub-municipality in 1946 and became independent in 1949.
