The parish church consecrated to St. John the Baptist belongs to the dean's office in Rust in the diocese of Eisenstadt . The church is a listed building .

history

The church may have been built from the remains of the castle that was destroyed in 1291. A church was mentioned in a document in 1436. The church was Protestant at times and was again occupied by Catholics in 1587. In 1683 and 1745 severe damage was caused by fire. In 1959/1960 the church was expanded with the architect Robert Kramreiter . 1963 was a restoration.

architecture

The Gothic church building has a western tower, which is essentially medieval, with a pointed stone helmet. The retracted polygonal closing choir has buttresses. In the north and northeast is the modern extension with colored glass windows by the painter Josef Mikl (1967 and 1970).

Furnishing

The high altar is a high classical structure made of sandstone with fluted columns and a flat gable and shows the altarpiece Baptism of Christ as a copy after Guido Reni .
