Phare de Ploumanac'h , officially: Phare de Mean Ruz , is a lighthouse built in 1945 on the Channel coast of Brittany in the Côtes-d'Armor department , France.
location
The 15 m high lighthouse marks the entrance to the port of Ploumanac'h , which belongs to the municipality of Perros-Guirec . Its range is 12 nautical miles (white) and 9 nautical miles (red). From the lighthouse you have a good view of the Costaérès Castle , the current second home of the actor Dieter Hallervorden , the island of Renote and the Sept Îles archipelago .
history
The original Ploumanac'h lighthouse from 1860 was destroyed in 1944, during the Second World War, and replaced by the current tower, which was commissioned in 1945. Its white light is visible all the way to Rouzic Island. The tower was built according to plans by Henry Auffret.
etymology
The name is derived from the village of Ploumanac'h, which probably means something like community of monks . Mean Ruz means the red stone translated from Breton .
